Tankless Water Heaters
Tankless Water Heater or Traditional?
When it comes time to replace an old water heater, the question of what kind to choose is always confusing. Do you stick with the same brand and type you have always had in your home or do you venture out in the crazy water heater world to explore your options? If you’re like most consumers you will spend some time on the web researching before making a buying decision. Here we will break down the benefits of a tank or standard water heater and a tankless water heater.
What does it cost to replace a water heater?
According to the research of the experts at Shoutwire, in Sacramento, the average homeowner will spend anywhere $135 to $1,025 to repair an old inefficient water heater. Now, if you are reading this you might have already had a repair estimate and be ready to buy a new one because it just doesn’t make sense to put that much money into an old water heater that will likely fail again in the future. Replacing a standard water-heater can cost anywhere from $1,000 to $5,000. That is a pretty broad price range so it’s important to consider factors like, water usage, comfort, longevity, brand and contractor credibility. One thing that may affect the price is the Energy Star symbol. This will ensure that you are choosing the latest in technology for energy efficiency however it does come with an additional investment.
Which Brand Water Heater do I choose?
The possibilities are endless! First check to see if your water heater is gas or electric. That is a great starting point. One of the most difficult tasks when it comes to choosing a water heater is weaving through your options. You can do some research on the big box stores websites. However, this can be a little overwhelming and some retailers are brand specific, which means they are contracted to sell certain brands. As a plumbing contractor we are not brand specific at all, but we do tend to lean more towards Rinnai for tankless (pictured right) because of the quality and longevity and exceptional customer service However if you have a brand that you feel a certain loyalty too we can install that for you, but we will gladly explain the benefits of Rinnai or other brands you may be interested in.
Should I switch from a tank to a tankless water heater?
So the big question remains, do you or don’t you switch from a standard water heater to a tanklless? If you are thinking of upgrading to a tankless water heater there are plenty of things to consider. In our opinion, for a family of 4 or more there is a great long term benefit from moving to tankless. Not only are they more energy efficient but once the hot water reaches your fixture it is endless. The cost of a tankless water heater will go up when you make the initial investment but you will see the benefits in your utility bills down the line. Another benefit of moving to tankless is, the life span on the equipment is more than twice the life span of a standard water heater.
